AC 185 won't run right

I have an AC 185 that will start, run, idle and rev up. However, when I got to move the tractor no matter how long I've warmed it up, when I start to let the clutch out it dies. Also if I just let it sit and run it will run for about 5 minutes it will die. The sediment bowl is full and that's about as far as I have gotten on trouble shooting so far. I hoped that maybe someone could send me in the right direction and save me some time if they have run into this before. Thanks, Brad.

If diesel you can test the injection pump by loostening the two timing cover screws on the side of the pump, letting fuel leak out. Start tractor with the cover still loose, if it revs up better and does not die while fuel leaks out the injection pump needs repair. Just repaired a JD 4020 pump for the same trouble.

The last day I ran it, it was above 40 degrees, but that's a good point about the filters. I know they can clog easy. I changed them last year but that doesn't always mean to much so I'll check them out.
Thanks.

Changed them last year. Shoot you should change them at least twice a year. Once in the spring and then in the fall. That way you have new filters one when they change the blends of summer and winter fuel

Back when I was still driving truck over the road we change the filter once a month but ya probably a whole lot more hours put on it then a tractor has

Your governor ring is breaking up in the pump ,AC models used a rubber ring and they are just old enough to give trouble just needs to be redone ; where are you located ?

I would bet on a flex ring issue. I repair a a couple a month with this same problem. Good pump that lasts a long time, but the flex ring is kind of a maintenance thing. Every older roosa pump with any age or hours will need one. Sooner or later. If you repair it before it takes out the rivets it is a straight forward low buck repair. I get $350..00 to clean, reseal the pump, and replace the flex ring. Then I run them on the test stand. Anyone who charges much more is taking you for a ride. Al Baker 231/757/0064

Very well said Al, your completely right! I called a shop one time and he said $1000 bucks to start ,may be more $$$ they dont make them any more blah blah- i told him i knew what the kit cost and theres thousands out there : he changed his price to maybe $750 , nope no thanks

I'm in Indiana, south of Indianapolis. Is that like the flex ring the other reply refered to? And as I asked him, is there a way to test it?

Thanks for your help.

I sort of messed up, I forgot to put anti-gel stuff in my fuel. So any testing will have to wait until it warms enough to get it running again. From the looks of the weather, I think I'm stuck for a couple weeks.

Darn my stupid self.
