I bought a 1941 allis chalmers wc and want to convert it over to twelve volt does any body have suggestion on what alternator to get?

On my W Speed Patrol I used the common Delco 10SI like what would be under the hood of a 1980 Chev Pick up no power any thing no AC. Cost if around $45 plus a $10 core. Fit on real nice. THe W Speed Patrol is a grader based on the WC tractor so it should work just fine for you

I do 12 volt conversions all the time and I have been using that alternator on all of them for over a decade now.

On the WCs I have messed with under the hood is not a problem since they mount down on the left side frame rail or at least to W Speed Patrol is that way and the parts WC I have is that way

mike, what you want is an alternator with an internal voltage regulator to make things simple. GEneral Motors started making them in 1975 or so. AT 5 million per year, thats a lot of choices. FORD used external for a few years after that so not as many choicec. That being said you can use a Honda or Toyoto or any other... just make sure it is INTERNAL voltage regulator... Old is right, the GM / Chevy will normally be the cheapest since it is most common. That is the standard unit used on many tractor upgrades.
