D17 barely registering temperature.

I replaced my temperature gauge thinking that was the problem but the new gauge has the same issue. The engine never really registers more than 125 degrees. Even on the hottest days during the summer I it never really comes up to temp. Is there a blockage or flow issue I am missing?

I put 180 deg. thermostats in my WD45 and D15II for similar reasons. Seems like the standard ones are colder, like maybe 160? Can't seem to find anything different for my B and C. Seems like those -stats. are really cold.
There was a discussion on here recently about even going to 195.

Very good chance it has no thermostat install in it any more. Common practice in years past was to just throw the thermostat away and run with out one. Which can be a bad idea due to the fact the engine may never get warm enough to boil condensation off and in some system can cause the engine to run hot but in your case that is not the problem

I will double check the thermostat but I vaguely remember checking for it a couple years ago.

By the way if it has one in it then it could also be stuck wide open which will do the same things as not having one in it

The D-17 parts manual lists both a 160 and 180 degree thermostat.
If the rest of the cooling system is good, I would personally opt for the 180 deg thermostat.
