Allis B hydralic cylinder

I have been looking for a cylinder for my Allis B, it seems that used ones don't come up for sale very often. Are they a good cylinder and are they reliable? I know they are single acting. I plan on hooking it to my belly mounted sickle mower, is that pretty easy to do or is it worth it?

yes they are reliable. Only thing that can go wrong is seals on head need replaced. (shoule make sure the rod finish is not overly pitted.) Very simple small unit to lift several hundred pounds.

It is easier to find cylinder off a WD or WD45 then one for the B/C. I have 2 WD/WD45 cylinders on my C. One for the 3 point I built and one for the front lift I built. I had a cylinder or 2 laying around off a B/C but do not remember if I still have one or not

Thanks Old, I was hoping you would respond. I hadn't considered one off a WD or a WD-45. That was an angle I hadn't thought of.

Or of course you can use an aftermarket cylinder as long as it is rated for over 3500PSI to be on the safe side. The A/C hyd systems are high pressure low GPM

I have a B Industrial sickle mower on my B. It was equipped with a cylinder to provide the lift height adjustment from the factory so it's possible. You might find drawings on the AGCO website, a bit hard to locate as you have to drill down to the Allis Chalmers folder then, the particular attachment that your are looking for but it can be done. I could provide you some pictures.

I would buy a new one from www.surpluscenter.com
Get their catalog they have a great selection. You can get a double acting cylinder and a vent plug to screw into the other port making it single acting.
I think the one I got was part # 9-7258-10, 1 1/2" bore, you can get it in different strokes.

Big thing with a aftermarket cylinder is you have to make sure it is rated at over 3000PSI or you could end up with a cylinder bomb on your hands

Old I plan on taking your advice ,it's real good advice. Am looking for a cylinder off of a WD or WD45 . There used to be quite a few in our area so it should be easier to find. I used to have a WD 45, is the cylinder the same or bigger? I can't recall.
Thanks, Randy

The WD/WD45 cylinder is both bigger and longer then the one from a C/B. The C/B used the same one as did the WD/WD45.

This one is a little pricey but others are out there.
