No links for you, but if you search a bit, you'll find plenty on problems with the transmissions in this series of AC tractor. I have a gas 190, and was not aware when I bought it, but thankfully seem to have gotten a "good" one, or at least one that was repaired before I got it. Jumping out of third going downhill is a symptom of the problem.

From what I remember reading, repair involves tearing into the transmission and welding up/grinding or replacing some components to restore original tolerances. Don't remember the details tho.

Got a 180 and a 185 sitting in front of the shop that both jump out of 3rd and 4th. No sign of a brake on them at all. It cost $6000 to redo a 190 about 20 years ago.

You can pull the shifter cover off and take a look inside. Third is the second gear from the front, you can see the sync type lugs and tell how much they are worn, same with the other gears. You might see a bent shifter fork too, But to get the top to come off, shift it into 2nd gear first, leave it in that position for reinstall.
