I was wondering what the differences are between an AC 780 and 782 chopper.I know the spout is different. My grandfather had one years ago and I would like to find one for my collection. It would get used 10-12 loads a year.I would also like to find an AC silage wagon. Thanks Tom

The 782 had the different spout and a heavier pto driveline if I remember correctly. They are a good chopper but there are a few problems with running them these days. The knives are not available anymore, neither are the replaceable shearbar knives(could be fabricated) and the corn heads do not feed that well, putting a roller chain style gathering chain does help.

My grandfather had a two row but I am hoping to find one with a one row head,so hopefully that would take care or feeding problems.

Be careful with those AC corn choppers. The corn will not feed in well. It has to go sideways and when it plugs up, the tendency is to give it a push by hand, while the maschine is running. You cannot pull your hand back quick enough and consequently many operators have lost their arm. At one time,I personally knew 3 or 4 farmers that had had such an accident
With the hayhead on it you don"t have that problem.

We had both, didnt like either. They were a poor excuse for a chopper when brand new. I two have a repaired finger cause of the gathering chain . Baught a fox 2800 to replace the 782. Now that was a step up. Ac wagons were not much better than their choppers. We even had Ac haybines. These were a whole different class of junk. We moved up to the JD 1209 haybine. Much MUCH better. We had mostly orange on our farm when I was a kid. Some stuff was good, some not so. I did like the hay rakes. I have owned to different styles and liked them both.
