Buda Engine coolant going into the oil

I usually post over on the Cockshutt board, but I just bought a Cockshutt 40 gas with the Buda 6 cylinder which is pretty akin to some of the Allis engines. Previous owners says it is getting coolant into the oil. He says the block is cracked between the sleeves at the top and the sleeves have never been taken out to see if there are cracks in the bottom. I have seen 2 Budas with cracks between the sleeves at the top before and they don't mean anything I don't think. My question is do the orings leak often at the bottom of the sleeves and has anyone ever seen one cracked at the bottom of the sleeves? I am hoping it is the Orings.

On the 201 and 226 4 cylinders, they are nearly all cracked between the liners at the top. Seldom ever hear of one cracked at the bottom. Do hear a lot about the o-rings going bad though.

Just what Aaron says.....but the bottom line is what you find out on YOUR engine block! I"m a big believer in percentages, but there"s only one way to find out----good luck!

On some the sleeves drop down and you lose the sleeve protrusion allowing the head gasket to leak, it can all be welded up and fixed tho

I am hoping it is the orings. I got a spare block with it and it
has cracks marked off with marker, but again only at the top
between the sleeves. It has no sleeves in it and I see no
cracks at the bottom. I am waiting for the tractor and the
undissaembled engine to come later in the month. I will put
some antifreeze in it with the pan off and see where it is
dripping. Kind of interesting how these old tractors are all a
little bit linked to one another. I guess that is why I never met
a tractor I didn"t like!

You might check the freeze plugs in the top of the cylinder head. If you are "lucky" it is a quick, cheap and easy fix. Hope for the best.
