Allis c question

I've got a couple of questions about my C. First did they make a conversion to change it to a distributer from a mag. My service manual just talks about mag timing. And when timing it do you use the hole on the side or the bottom, I do not see any marks on the flywheel through eather hole. And what is the difference between a B and a C I always thought it was the front end but my operators manual shows C's with wide fronts. When I changed the trans oil I pulled all three plugs out of the bottom side, two under the trans and one under the pto. . Then refilled it the book says 6qt and a extra one with the pto mine would only hold 5 is there something I'm missing there?

Later C's came with distributors. The C rear axles are longer so the C is about a foot wider in the rear end. Use the hole in the side and look for the word "fire". You may have to clean the side of the flywheel with degreaser. No B's were tricycle but a lot of C's were.

Yes, you can put a distributor on a C.. THey came on the later CA tractors, and maybe a few Cs. The B and C share the same motor, radiator, hood, transmisison, bevel gear. The B has a narrow rear axle housing, and a narrow wide front axle. You should be able to get 7 quarts of oil into the transmission, i always have. The three plugs is the correct area to drain.

Ok thanks Monday when I get a chance I will try to clean the flywheel and see if I can find fire on it. Thanks again

Model B is a one row tractor...Model C is a bit wider, different wider rear end, so a two-row tractor. That is from the days of 40/38 inch rows. Model B was typically wide front with the wishbone axle, C was typically narrow tricycle front, but single and horizontal wide front available. Re oil: Operator manuals detail oil needs, locations, operating levers, features, etc, and way much more!

If you are going to put a distributer on it you will need to find the TDC or CENTER line as well.

Any engine with a distributer is timed to TDC for start up. Some cars need to be adjusted after start to a book setting. These engines don't.

You can find how to time a distributer below on a large thread.

If you have a manual crank handle, turn the motor slowly untill the handle is about horizontal and you will hear the magnito "snap". At that point, you look in the hole on left side of the flywheel and you should be at the TDC mark. If not, roll the motor 180 degrees and listen for the "snap" and check again. If you dont see the TDC, then stop a few degrees sooner, or after the snap and check. It helps to have someone else look in the hole while you crank .. by hand.
