I friend has a 185 with a locked up engine and the transmission jumps out of gear.

1. Any idea what a used engine, I think it is a diesel 301, might cost ball park?

2. How expensive are the parts to fix the transmission assuming the only issue is the gear jumping.

Thanks.

Paul

I have a Model 2800 engine from a Gleaner F that is supposed to fit in a 185. 6 cylinder diesel that runs good. Located in Southern Illinois. Asking $850.00.

Figure $1000 for the engine and its hard to say on the tranny, is it locked in gear? A bearing seized on the shaft? Could just be in between gears or a shift lever sprung a complete tranny rebuild is at least 2000 and thats with cheap A+ I parts ; alot of labor just getting to it

Sorry i miss read your post a gear jumper is hard to stop, but its at least 2 grand with using cheap A+I parts, i just hold them in gear and make sure you have some kind of brake!

Thanks a lot for the responses Doug and Dennis. This at least gives me some idea as to expense.

The comment about hard to fix a jumper is interesting in that I know a fellow that fixed a 190XT but he said he had to tear it apart more than once, maybe three times, to fix it so it would not jump out of gear. Then he sold it. He must of been real tired of it. Whew, that would be frustrating.

Dennis, if the guy wants to fix it I will keep your offer in mind.

Thanks to both of you. Paul
