Gleaner F heads

Wanting to put a 15 or 16 foot head on a F. What does it take to put one off a newer F3? Or even a green stripe? Hart Carter is just falling apart. Trying to run with a Love wobble now but just want to upgrade a little. Have robot system. Any help would be appreciated!

If you"re talking about putting a flex head (not floating cutterbar like you have now), from an F3 on an F, it is a major upgrade, and spendy. You need the control module, $800 and NLA, plus the wiring harness that goes with it. I recently upgraded my M2 to an M3 system, found a used module and a harness from an N6.

IDK if the F would even have the basic harness that the module hooks in to. I doubt it, cuz you need the header height control option on the console. I think you"ll have to stick with the robot. Check with the folks at the combine talk show directory.

After further thought, I don"t see how it could work on an F. The F has hyd valves controlled by a mechanical linkage to the levers in the cab, and the robot is controlled with a mechanical cable between the hdr and the robot by the window, which ties into the hyd system. The 2 and 3 Series have electric/hyd valves, controlled by electrical switches. That"s what the harness is used for. Electric raise/lower switch is on the hdr, sends signal through the module to the electric solenoid on the hyd valve.

You could physically attach a flex head to an F, and control it by hand with the lever in the cab. Then you"d have the right head if/when you find an F3.

On my M2, updating it to a 3 Series was very serial number specific in regard to module and harness parts numbers.

How much work is it to install a flex? By the time I am done should just by a R52. Lol. Are the head drives on the same side? Hate to make it to complicated have a beautiful A430 that was barn kept and did about 1000 acres tops. Would I be able to still use it?

Next question. 44 tooth or 52 to run 13.1 soybeans with green stalks? Having trash and fan speed at 9. Have 44 tooth now, fan speed to fast? Not blowing out the back, but still getting empty hulls in bin. What is wrong? Thanks JMS/MN!

Lower sieve is the last line of defense re what goes in the bin. Close it a bit, maybe open the chaffer a bit as well. Had the same thing on my M2 couple days ago. Also topped out fan speed- you already are there.

Drive is another issue. Flex drive is a shaft with splined coupler going directly to combine from the side. F head uses a drive chain from combine, forward to header. re using the A430- different drive package may cost the price of most of what the head is worth.
