190XT's and 200's

I see very little on this board about 190XT's and 200's; and at show's I rarely see them, or very few of them.
Why is that? Are people not collecting them?
When I was young my Dad bought a new 190XT, we split the rear casting wide open plowing. Later we had a 200. It was a nicer tractor but when it sold at my brothers auction it jumped out of 3rd gear like so many Allis's.
I would like to see comments about collecting these tractors, are they not collectable? What about the narrow front models, are there any of those around?
Thanks. Paul

I think you just answered your own question. I used to think they were good tractors. But that design just doesn't hold up long term in that size. The D series are my favorite. I wouldn't mind having one of each.

Well I will say this, in my area there used to be a guy who pulled a 190XT with a single front wheel, he would start out stripped down and pull in the lighter classes and work his way up to the big boys and he was in contention for every weight class he pulled in. Out side of that the biggest thing we own is a 185.

Paul, when people got done with them they were so worn out it did not pay to keep them. Dads 1966 xt had over 12000 hours on it when he sold it, Never jumped out of gear or had the rear end apart. 1 motor overhaul and 1 clutch, pulled 4X16 plow and a 16' IHC disk. Had hundreds of road hours on it hauling big bales to the cattle. The guy that bought it put a gas motor in it and only uses it to feed his cattle all winter. Father in law had 3 of them, all good tractors but were so worn out at 10 to 12000 hours it did not pay to overhaul them. You could trade them off for a tractor with a good cab and better brake lock system. I think the dealers must have scrapped most of them. Wish I could find a good 1 today.

Maybe....cuz ...they"re still working? Sure, the early ones had rear end problems, but had the warranty fix. Lots of 3rd gear problems were because of op error- the clutch is intended to be pushed in, BEFORE shifting. Remember hearing the noise, and suggesting....grind a pound for me too?

I bought an AC200 5 years ago in great shape with 3600 hours. Great tractor with loads of power and just sips fuel. Very happy with it, but it appears to have led an easy life before I bought it.

The gear jumping was an engineering screw up, operators grinding didnt help but AC shoulda changed something over the yesrs as even D series jump out and people got killed over it

Thanks for all the great comments. The rear end was improved in the later 190XT's and 200. It is beyond me why they did not fix the issue with the jumping out of gear. It must of been too big a design tear up and too much new tooling is all I can figure; or it was just more convenient to blame the operator (which I agree was partly to blame). I just shake my head when I see loaders on any of those tractors. They just were not designed for that, even many of the other brands were just not meant for loaders. They were meant to pull.
Anyway, thanks again for responding. I felt the Allis's had many great attributes (like fuel economy), too bad their weaknesses were so prevalent/serious. Paul

I am currently in the process of bringing a 190 xt back from the dead. I got it from a local dairy farm that parked it about 15 yrs ago due to jumping outta gear. It has 8500 hrs on it and was worked hard all of its life they were not much on preventive maintenance. And I have to disagree with all nonsense about the week rear ends and tranny yes the tranny is a little small for a tractor of this size. But this tractor done lots of heavy tillage work with duals on it and all that was wrong in the tranny was a couple gears and bearings. And the rear end is the later one with big axles and was in great shape. It really is in the way you treat them this one would have been ok if they didn't grind them till you find them
