Toutch-up paint

My G was repainted before I got it. With what, I have no idea. Tractor Supply's rattle can paint labeled for AC is too "bright". Any suggestions?

Maybe it was painted with PO#2. Not sure but I'd think G's should be painted PO #1 which is darker or as some say "browner shade of orange ". I still find it in some farm supply stores but getting a true match will be hard as there is always some difference due to mixing errs by the painter. Mike

leon,

Don't bother with tractor supply paints as it is just junk in both quality and color match. They now use Majik and did away with Valspar paints which is better quality and made to match the original color codes.

Ace Hardware has their name on a rattle can of color name "Allis-Chalmers Orange" IRC that has proved a good match to the paint we sprayed on a couple of our tractors. Not sure where it comes in with regards to overall shade, but in your situation you probably will just have to bite the bullet, buy up half a dozon spray cans of various brands and names of "orange", get a peice of scrap metal, and try each to find the best match.

How long ago was it painted & where has it been since then? By where has it been, I mean has it been in inside storage or has it been outside, either working or just parked. Could be just faded from normal weathering.

If I were to take a paint "chip" off the tractor to a paint store or auto supply store that does paint and have them try to match it, what type of paint, enamel or what, would I want for brush touch up?

I don't know how long ago it was restored, but I suspect 10 years or so because the seller said the tires were about that old. It came from Connecticut and I suspect it was stored under roof, if not inside. I do find a really good grey-colored primer under the orange - probably DuPont. I don't think it set outside. The paint on the sheet metal has held up better than that on the cast iron or heavier steel parts. Maybe the smoother sheet-metal got wax or in some other way had the oxidized paint taken off.
