I am working on a 6040 was wondering how much antifreeze does this tractor hold. Also he complains about the hydraulics being slow. Is there a separate hydraulic tank or does it share the same oil as the rear end.

The cooling system holds 8 quarts. The transmission and hydraulic system share the same tank, the capacity on that is 29 quarts.

Is the oil recommended for hydraulics and transmission like hytran? Or is it something else. I was looking in the parts book and see the oil has to go a long way up to the pump and there is no check valve in the line. The engine has to run a long time to prime the hydraulic system. Checked the screen and that is fine. Is there anything else I should check.
Thank you for any help.

I use 303 Tractor fluid from O'reilly auto parts in the transmission/hydraulics. Check the high pressure filter located in front of the radiator on the right side. The following is from the service manual "The hitch control valve has two adjusting controls. The one in front is for sensitivity and can be adjusted to control the speed at which the system will react to a signal from the draft arms. The control on top of the valve limits the amount of oil that the lift ram can get thereby limiting the lift speed." I won't be back around my 6040 for a couple of days, but on my 160 the control valve is directly below the seat. I hope this helps.

Talked to the AGCO dealer they said there should be 75w90 in the rear end and this is the same sump for the hydraulics. Dealer said they put in hytran or equivalent oil in the rear end. Does this sound like a good idea or would I be asking for trouble. Any info would be helpful.
