D15 Series II ..... some questions ???

Looking at an AC D15 series II gas tractor with a factory loader. Looks and runs well but the owner is on holidays, it is on consignment with a local outfit, the guy there doesn't know too much about the tractor (like me). I have some basic info from some internet searching, here here are a few questions that maybe somebody can help me with ....

1) Is the front-mounted hydraulic pump for the loader a factory item?

2) I see a round bale spear pocket welded onto the bucket. Would this tractor be able to lift a round bale?

3) Three Point Hitch .... doesn't seem to be working, at least I can't find out how it works. Two levers on the left side of the steering column right? Anything else to be done to make it work?

4) Three Point Hitch ..... is it a standard type or is it an Allis-only implement type?

5) Long lever with a thumb button on the driver's right side. Seems to be maybe 2-3 positions and operates a shaft into the bell housing area I think. What's it for?

6) Flat-bar lever on the left, is that the PTO on/off?

7) Engine displacement in cubic inches?

8) Any good or bad things about the tractor I should look for next time I drop over to see it?

9) Serial Number location ?

Have a D15 also. Hyd pump is an option. Spear on bucket may lift small to mid size round bale. 3 point, hyd to loader maybe hooked to remote outlet need to unhook. Long lever is for low, nuetral, hi range. Flat bar is pto. Engine is 152. Serial number on left side where motor bolts to bell housing top of motor flange. Farmed with this tractor for years.

Definitely check out the gears. 2nd gear is notorious on these things. If it kicks out of gear on its' own, there are problems. The rebuild on that is extremely time consuming and expensive.

I have a Series I D15 (SN#3057) and a series I D17 (SN#36222). Both are good and solid... I took a chance on the 15 because I didn't get to drive it before I bought it.

Sounds like big round bales are out, I was thinking that the tractor might be a bit underpowered and undersized for that. I understand all your points except the 3-point reply with the hookup to the loader etc leaves me a wee bit confused. Can you clarify that a bit if possible?

Our series II D15 was a loader tractor for its previous owner. The rear end got wore out, and those parts are not easy to find! That said, we did fix it, and 15 years later it is a good tractor, though we don't have the loader.
So I'd keep an ear out for noise there.
You don't say if it has the optional power steering. If not, it may lift a round bale, but it won't steer. Without the ps it will be tough to steer with no weight on the bucket. I know this as we had a series I D15 with loader, and it had no power steering (neither does our series II) thus sold that one and the loader!

If it really is a series II(does it have an oval muffler?) then it has the last version of that engine(@160 cu in) which started with the B.
A front mounted pump was available with a loader as the tractor doesn't have much of a hydraulic system. The reservoir would be in the loader frame, and the valve mounted on the loader frame also, making the whole system separate from the original tractor hyd. system.
You can easily tell by looking at it if is the typical snap coupler set up, or factory available three point hitch. The lift would be the same either way. The lever on the left of the steering wheel(not the notched one) is the lift lever. Pushing the foot clutch will stop the tractor hyd. pump and PTO.
There was a factory optional hyd. pump which mounted on the belt pulley drive, along with its own reservoir, and a multi spool valve. But, I have never seen one, and if this tractor had that I doubt they would have added the front pump.

To answer the questions not answered by others:

1. yes, and no. front pump is a plus

2. Mine has no trouble with 500 lb bales, would say 1000 is prolly the limit I'd go to.

3. if it doesn't have fluid, and/or your foot is on the clutch, no lifty. Check dipstick, RS under gas tank. Takes universal hytran,

4. Several OEM types available, both a true 3-point hitch, and an adapter. I prefer the SC with adapter, as the factory 3 point direct mount is held on by bolts that point upward, and can work loose, check these for loose bolts, welds, over-size replacement bolts, not uncommon problem.

5. Hand clutch, for high, neutral and low, from front to back. PTO, Hyds still run, when the hand clutch is in neutral. It it's series 2 the thumb button will have a guard around the front and right edge.

6. PTO on forward, off back.

7. !49/round muffler, 160 oval muffler.

8. Check out 3rd gear, by cresting a steep hill, and seeing if it pops out of gear, when the backlash starts. See also #4.

9. on left side of tractor, where motor meets torque tube, hand stamped in the flange of the torque tub, at about 45 angle to horizontal. Tractor motor # is about an inch forward of serial#. Not unusual for battery acid to have obliterated the legibility of the hand stamped (lightly) numbers.

If you decide against it, can you tell me where it is located, I grew up on a D-15 II and would love to find one. Thanks.
