have a few problems with my carb. Tractor was sitting at my brothers place for the last year, I asked to get it going if I could rake with it. the 1st time I took to carb apart and soaked it in drain cleaner. Then put a new float in it (old one was crushed) and a new kit. I put an in line filter on it, run good off to rake....
1) runs like sh!t, under load it stalls, then puffs black smoke, runs, stalls puffs, ect.
2)over flowing with gas out the side arm and into the air cleaner

went and put 2nd kit in it re adjusted float
no power, acting like it runing out of gas (good flow to plug)

opened it again re adjusted float witch is (smashed?)

now i have fuel running all over the place again
is there some thing i'm missing or beating a dead horse? every time to take it apart is 26 dollor kit.. why would the floats be smashed? any help please?

Only way I know a float could get smashed is you force it in or the air cleaner is so clogged up that the engine sucks a super hard vacuum but that is not likely. As for the kit well I have opened carbs up 2 or 3 times and used only one kit. Only way I can see messing up a kit is if you used some sort of gasket glue which you NEVER do on a carb. As for the in line filter that in it self is trouble from to get go I fix many in line filter troubles and throw them All away the sediment bowl and the screen in it is all a guy ever needs

what does the cleaner call for? i was/am using sae 30. same as my fery. as for the gaskits keep sticking, riping, peeling apart.. better place to get gaskets?

Air cleaner uses the same oil as the engine. The air cleaner can also be plugged up so bad that it lets little to no air by. The down tube needs to be open so you can see threw it and some time dirt dubbers fill them.
As for the kits I buy my kits at O'Reilly's auto and they cost around $20 and never yet had a gasket stick. The key to carb is clean and then get it cleaner

Why would you buy a 26 dollar kit when you take the carburetor apart? Because I have over a dozen running tractors that set out side all the time and some do not even get started every year I take two or three apart every year and clean them. I don't buy anything. The only thing that I need is a gasket. Years ago I started setting while watching TV with a sheet of gasket paper, an exacto knife, a tablet size piece of 1/8" paneling and cut out carburetor gaskets. When I get down to one I set and cut more. I don't got the money so I done gots to use my noggin instead of my billfold.

There were 2 different brands of carbs used on the CA. The floats will not interchange, one is larger than the other, Marvel-Schebler and Zenith carbs were used. . Are you getting the correct float? The kits run $22.50 and $24.50 each in my new catalog. Floats are separate and run $14.95 for the Zenith and $11.95 for the M.S.
