I have a '54 CA, complete and very good condition except for one thing: it has a knock in #2 cylinder. The knock isn't very bad, and I am using it for light duty, but I want to sell it. This tractor has an after market three point hitch that works well, excellent sheet metal, very good tires and wheels, rebuilt steering and front bearings, and even has the original red lens tail light. I don't want to sell it to someone who does not know of the knock. What should I ask? I'm in VA.

well, the motor has to come apart to fix the problem. You probably have more in parts if sold seperate as you listed. I would guess the entire tracotor would bring $800.

A lot of those engines developed a crack between the #2 and #3 cylinders in the block. So one must look further to do it rite.
Around here it wood probably bring aboot $300.00 more or less.

little cracks dont hurt nothing. Block has wet liners and head seals on the liner top. Small cracks between cylinders are common and insugnificant. A "knock" is a bearing problem, or bent rod.

Thanks, Steve and Harvey. Happy for all info and other's opinions. Looking for a mechanic to sell it to. I can do some work, carb, electrical, peripheral stuff, but not serious engine work. Parting out difficult due to shipping costs.

If your tires look good, they would be worth $400. for the pair with rims. The 3 point hitch is a couple hundred. I would think you could get someone local to pay $7-800. for the unit total.. It also has hydraulics and a 4 speed trans that many would like on a B or C.

Typical AC. If they don't have a block or head issue give it a while and it will develop one. The engine blocks were made of an extremely porous cast iron and they cracked quickly compared to other engines. I have had several models and they are all the same. That and the fact that they are 70 years old doesn't help much.
