Well, I went ahead and pulled the axle with stray 1/2" washer in it. The washer fell out right away but there was a lot of sand in the brake drum housing, probably from a previous owner's sandblaster. So I pulled the axles on out. It had what were probably the original National oil seals but as was mentioned in a reply on my earlier post, SKF/NAPA No. 11800 seals were available overnight. I found the brake linings pretty well worn, but not down to the rivets yet and I'm sure not going to drive it a lot, so went back with what I took out. I drove it some and of course the new rear axle seals are holding and I haven't yet seen signs of leakage from the input shaft seal now that the transmission has been brought back up to the proper oil level. I went with SAE 30W non-detergent.
