D14 Engine Miss

My dad has a D14 That I have been wrestling with on and off for 6 months. It goes to running fine to wont hardly start at all. Seems to get to its worst after going over a hill where the governor is used to keep tractor slowed down. New cap, wires, plugs, rotor, different coil, had distributor completely apart, run a separate ground from outside distributor housing to tractor frame, checked all wires going back to key switch. To me the spark looks real weak. When running, I pull a plug wire off and can hardly tell a difference. ANY advise

What you describe can be in the fire or in the fuel. Have you cleaned the carburetor? Also, check the timing. You can check it by ear by rotating the distributor until the engine runs the best.

Go to basics, is it wired in the right order? 1243 is AC, sometimes a farmall mechanic will reverse a couple wires. Also, you need to observe things as thy are happening. Does it mess up, after a certain period of time? Could be a coil heating up. Is the coil wired right to the points? On - ground, the - terminal on the coil goes to the points. Do you have a heavy key ring on the switch? could be the switch going bad, Lots of things to think about.

Next time you use it, run a wire from the - side of the battery (assuming it is positive ground) to the coil. This will bypass the ignition switch. See how it runs that way. If no improvement, look else where. New parts aren't always GOOD parts. LOL Bob
