Hi again , what are you guys doing about leaking gas valve . Up here they are not available only the complete sediment bowl for $75.00

Oh what fun it is to play with antiques -- some days L.O.L.

No farm and home places?? Where are you?? That siad some times you can tighten the packing nut which sits behind the shut of and that stops the problem or you take it apart and replace the O-Ring

OH OH didn't know about any 0 ring -- took mine apart and cleaned it and there was no 0 ring . I thought it was a brass fit -- now I need to see a diagram where the 0 ring sits -- thanks old

O-Ring sits just under the packing nut and may or may not be a true o-ring it can also be a felt sort of waster etc

I had pretty good luck with some teflon packing line from a plumbing hardware store. It kind of a string that you put a couple wraps around screw with the nut off and tighten up to compress the packing.

Seems like sometimes a new replacement is just the best way to fix a real wore out one since leaking gasoline is such a bad condition to have.

Your right , the gas is dripping on the starter -- not a good thing . I 've had good luck with Teflon tape over the years , but I'll look for the proper seal --- thanks for the suggestion

I did not mean Teflon tape that would be used on threads. There is a Valve Packing material like a Cord that can be used on Pumps, Valves, Hydrants & ect that is permanent once it is in the right place.

It is best to use the o-ring or tapered washers but how do you get them on without taking the knob off which is usally crimped on the screw?

Valves and Hydrants ect

Thanks Cleddy, the putty works good -- but now the rubber seal is leaking and the float is stuck open -- oh well ,both are easy fixes
