wd pto gearbox

Just bought a 49 wd the gentleman said when you hold the clutch in it would run when you let the clutch out killed the tractor. Told me that thought it was the pto. Took the pto gear box off tonight found that the casting holding the main gear that mates to the tractor was broke. We have a unstlyed wc with the a good pto gear box. My question is will a wc gear box fit a wd?
 
Don't believe so.

Now that the PTO dropbox is off, leave the foot clutch back, throw the hand clutch forward and see if you can turn the engine with the hand crank. If not, you still have something jammed. Maybe the PTO drive gear in front of the wet clutch has broken teeth jammed with the intermediate gear.

If you can turn the engine, put the gear shift in neutral and pull the hand clutch back. With the hand crank, try to turn the engine. If not, you have trouble with the wet clutch or tranny input.

If any of this makes you nervous, pull the wires from the spark plugs.
 

The PTO gears are shot..
Good advice would be to locate a GOOD PTO geabox from a WD-45 (and have it Magnafluxed)..
They are stronger than the one on a WD..

Not all that much and worth the difference...

be sure to have it Magnafluxed to be sure it has n fractures..
Not much more than one from a WD.

The upper ears are larger that support the idler gear.
