Well, I got the manifold off ok and one stud came out with the nut and I discovered it goes into a water passage!
The front exhaust port on the manifold had no sign of a seal, either the gasket or the metal retainer! The manifold looks very good though and the gasket failed all at once after years of service and I noticed the sound when it failed right away. I think a new gasket set will be all I need.
The studs at either end of the manifold showed signs of erosion or wear and I want to replace them. They see the most heat and do not want to come out and I need some advice on how to attack them. Do I heat the head with a torch around the stud first? The only stud remover I have is an old Craftsman job that I have never used. Any tips will be depreciated!
