WC Cylinder Head

New User
Installed my rebuilt cylinder head and assembled the rest of the motor. Started right up and runs like a top. It's leaking oil from the side cover at the bottom towards the back of the motor. I tightened the bolts evenly, and they're not going to tighten any further. Any suggestions? The new after market starter switch sticks while cranking (12 volt conversion)I pry open it with a screw driver to break contact. The switches all look the same. does anyone make a good one. Thanks
 
You say tighten the bolts but did you use the CORRECT torque and then after warm did you re-torque them?? As for that starter switch I just replaced one on an C should be the same and got the switch from O'Reilly's and not had any problem with it
 
On the side cover,"I tightened the bolts evenly, and they're not going to tighten any further." I think you have tightened them too tight and probably ruined the gasket.
 
Twisting them in to much will cause the cover to lift away from the block slightly between the bolts and let the gasket leak. The covers can be distorted when this happens. It would be a good idea to check the cover for distortion. I would try to reuse the gasket if it has not been on long and use some gasket maker on both sides. If for some reason you painted under the gasket it will also leak until the paint is removed.
 
Old, I didn't know of a torque spec on this. What is it? Dick and Sid, I tightened the cover progressively, three times between testing for a leak. what do you recommend to form a gasket, permatex, RTV? Thanks guys.
