A novice's question about quick hitch

Okay, please don't hate me, but I am a Ford man. I have a Ford 2000 tractor and a bunch of New Holland implements.

A guy down the road has an Allis-Chalmers D17 for sale. I know the guy, but I haven't talked to him at all about the tractor.

So, my question is, what would I have to do to make all of my category 1 three-point hitch implements mount on his quick hitch tractor?

If it's easy, I'll talk to him about buying the tractor. If it isn't, I'll pass.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Assuming he has the typical D17 without 3 point hitch, and the hydraulic system works, and the lift arms are present and working, you could get a 3 point hitch adaptor for it.

Quick hitch or snap coupler??? To different things and the older D-17 would have a snap coupler not a quick hitch. Now if it has been converted to a 3 point and he has a quick hitch on it that is a different thing all in all and is an aftermarket thing that makes hooking up 3 point stuff easier

By quick hitch, I assume you are using a generic term for the AC snap coupler system. If so, then I'm with Bob. Assuming it has the lift arms and snap coupler bell you can put a 3 point adapter on it. Really, all you need are the lift arms. The better 3 point adapter bolts to the drawbar. Simple, and around $350 or so for a new kit. You can fabricate your own if you are handy with metal fabrication.

Cheapest way would be to find an old snap coupler semi mount plow, and unbolt the front off it, and use bolts instead of pins, to mount the lower lift arms. That and a D-17 toplink mount, and you have a cheap adapter.

Thanks Guys,

It sounds like I really need to go look at the tractor and see exactly what is on there.

By my post, you can see that I really did mean it when I said a "novice". I had no idea that there was a difference between "quick hitch" and "snap coupler". I've always heard it referred to as quick hitch, but that was my Ford friends talking.

Thanks again,

By the way not all that hard if you can weld to convert a snap coupler to a 3 point. Done it so many times I can almost do it in my sleep.

If you get just 1 snap coupler implement for that tractor, you will send your 3pt imps to the scrap yard. It blew my friends (an 8n owner) mind when he saw me hook up the plow without getting off of the seat. Can't do the with the 3pt LOL Bob
