If the motor has a rectangular plate bolted to the side of the block behind the oil filter/magneto area it's a WD. If the shift lever is straight it's a WD. If the shift lever is curved it might be a WD45. The serial # on the rearend is 146607 or larger on a WD45. The motor and tranny can be swapped between them so you never know, you could have a cross breed.

Look for a "Traction Booster Gauge" and a Curved Shift Lever (WD-45)...
WD-45 came with 13x28" rear tires (14.9x28" today).
Most WD tractors has adjustable Shutters..the 45 has none-- (Thermostat).

The very late model WD's also had the curved gear shifter and improved rear end from the factory so the gear shifter is not a guaranteed indicator.

Lonnie advice is spot on: If the engine block has the bolt on rectangular flat plate on the side of the block then it is a WD block. (Of course it still could have had WD45 internals put in on a rebuild). WD45 blocks are solid caste with no removable plates.

Mutts can sometimes be sorted out by running serial numbers and looking at the indicators.
