ib brake replacement.

I'm trying to replace my brake bands. I worked on several WD's years ago on the farm. I have the axle and housing off. I have the bearing cap off. I have been trying to get the drum to move on the axle. It won't move. I have removed the set screw andcan see the key. What do I do now?

You replace the bands without removing the drum. Can do it on the tractor. You remove the cover where the brake adjusters are and pull the old brake band around the drum to remove it and use a piece of wire going around the drum to pull the new one in.

I have tried that. I think the tractor is so old the dried grease is keeping the band from coming around. I will try a little harder tomorrow. I didn't remember being able to do that. Thanks. Mike

If you have the housing off you can get in there with a long screw driver or something and loosen up the crud to get it out of the way. I just pulled the bands out of one of my B's and they came hard and brought a lot of crap around with them.

there is barely enough room to get the shoes out thru the cover. You need to crunch up nad wash / blow out all the old mouse next, mud dobbers, and grease. Once it is almost clean you can pull them out. THey will not roll out easy, you need to tie a #9 wire on one end and pull the shoes out You can use a prybar and wrap the #9 wire around it and pry off the case, or hang a 3/4 tom chainfall on a rafter above and pull the #9 wire out... install the same way. Sometimes rolling the drum while you pull can help.

Make sure you have removed the brake rods and the adjuster bolts on rear of housings well as pins on bottom of housing.
