Allis Tractor Name meaning?

I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is any meaning behind the names given to the various Allis Chalmers Tractors. Specifically, what does WC or WD stand for, or D-15 etc... there must be some meaning behind the letters or letter and number combinations right?

As far as I know there was no system to it really. Early on there were #'s, 20-35, 25-40 to show HP ratings. Then came the United tractors or model U after which came the UC which was a cultivator version of the U. The UC, WC, RC, C are all cultivator tractors so maybe the C stands for that. As far as the A, B, WD and D series tractors I don't think there is any reasoning.

do not know about the numbers/letters

but did read some time ago about the color

one of the top managers was riding a train out west and went through the wheat country.

thought the color of the wheat looked nice.

got back and directed they change the color of allis chambers from green to the orange color.

again, just read that somewhere long ago. but for some reason they did change color.

I think the ferguson paint buyers just painted their tractors whatever color that was cheapest that year during the late fifty's.
gray, green, cream, red.

am sure you are right on the color id, it was a long time ago that I read the information

but, I do remember it was an interesting story of how the color got changed.

The only one I ever heard was that the WD-45 was initially planned/ targeted as a 45 horsepower tractor, though of course they fell short.

It would be interesting to know what inspired the choice of color for ALL tractors. 'Course we all know that John Deere chose GREEN so their tractors could hide in the weeds and watch the other tractors actually get the work done. LOL

I thought Deere was green because it would put you in the green financialy while IH was red because it wouold put you in the .........

Persian Orange was chosen from the Poppy flower color to make the tractors "stand" out in the fields.
At that time, a lot of makes were shades of green and gray.
