My WD with the new New Holland 268 Hayliner

Picked up this New Holland Hayliner last October for $600. The farmer I got it off of stored it in one of his barns 12 years ago when he started doing big round bales. It only needed a new belt for the take-up real and a new front pressure plate, and it was good to go. Baled 100 bales out of my front pasture last Friday, June 14th. Cut Thursday the 13th, raked and baled Friday. Got it all in before the rain. Every-so-often it produces a short-tied bale with the remainder falling out the back un-tied. Someone told me to spray diesel fuel on the knotters.

The Mennonite across the road couldn't believe my little WD could run it.

When I got the baler, I then needed a rake. Scoured the local auctions until I found this JD 594 4-bar side-delivery rake over by Hoard, IL for $85 (junk price) and I am in the haying business.

Nice pics thanks for sharing.

I have refurb'd 2 of those JD 594 rakes and use them on my hobby operation. The price you gave is about what I paid for one of them and a bit less for the other. They do a great job of raking.

What do you cut with?

FWIW: I went and looked at what was advertised as a WD45 about a 1.5 years ago. Actually it was a very late WD had the improved WD45 style rearend but was still the WD motor and was original. The price was right but I did not like the ergonomics at all so I passed. I sometimes have to rely on the wife to do some of the haying when I get overly busy at real job and she did not like it all. Bet that hand clutch (pseudo live PTO) is nice for baling. I do like those Allis motors....

Need to get my WD out and hook it to my JD rake like that one. Mine rake is shiny where the cows been rubbing on it. Not been used for 10 years or more.

My uncle had a New Holland 267 baler, pulled it with his Farmall H. It was a very good baler, rarely missed a knot. Your WD should play with a 268. I still use a John Deere #594 rake that I pulled out of the woods 25 years ago. Maybe replaced a few tines in all that time, and it's stored in mother natures machine shed.

I cut with a Case #10 trailer mower. I have two, one for parts, and one that cuts when I'm not working on it. Its got a lot of clatter, and its very loose in the knife to pitman connection. I need a way to tighten that up. I may try heating and pounding it closer together, but I don't want to fatigue the metal.
