Just jumped into the world of antique tractor ownership after thinking about it for years. I was pining for a Farmall Cub or A or B, when I happened upon a sweet looking nicely restored 1940 Allis Chalmers B. I now own the georgous orange mini tractor and am rapidly becoming an Allis Chalmers fanatic. I am only going to use this little tractor to pull floats in parades and I do not want to over stress her. Does anyone know off hand what should be the maximum float weight I should allow her to pull so I do not tax this old machine too much?

David, the one thing that the B Allis loves to do, is PULL! I use 200 lbs of exercise machine weights on my front end, and plowed my garden this spring using my 52 B and pulling an Allis Chalmers 2- 14" trip rope plow. The govener opens when the plow goes in the dirt. and the engine is steady and smooth, but sounds like it likes it! You will spin out before stalling the motor.

"Ya ain"t gonna pull it and hurt it! It"s a TRACTOR, for gosh sakes!

Main worries would be too much tongue weight making the tractor do a backflip if the clutch is dumped AND having properly working brakes that can stop the tractor and float under ANY conditions under which you are operating.

EVERYBODY worries about the pulling part, but, safety-wise, if you are towing stuff around people, being able to STOP quickly and safely, if needed, is MORE important!

A B weighs less that a ton, IIRR. I wouldn't go pulling much more than 2-3 tons, anywhere than in the flat. Braking is the issue, as others have said! When brakes fail, lawsuits prevail, if you get my drift!

As the others have said tractors are made for pulling. Plows disks etc etc and made for hard work not to be babied. That tractor will easily pull your car or truck all day long and never be hurt.
Now as for how much you pull behind it I would say around 3000lbs. The pulling is not the problem but being able to stop when you may need to is the problem

do you suppose your float pulls any harder than this.

Thank you all for the responses I really appreciate the feedback. I will only be pulling a small 4 foot by 6 foot utility trailer with a maximum of 200 pounds of decorations on it and one person, so no worries there. I am so glad you guys mentioned to be awaqre of the braking issue. The tractor has new breaks on it but they are the hand pull manual breaks and I could easily see if I was using this little tractor to pull a heavy heavy float and going fast down a hill and needed to stop fast for an emergency I would be in fir a rude awakening. Than k you all for the heads up. I will go nice and slow, leave pleanty of space and always plan ahead.

you have a larger tractor hp. wise than in the
ih tractors these power units used to run the ferris wheels and tilt -a-whirls at the county fairs feel free to call

with the 116 CI engine you can pull 1400 lbs dead weight off the draw bar. With the 125 CI engine you can go up to 2500 lbs dead weight.
