Oil and water DO mix in a WD45 (continued)

Thanks again to all who responded to my original post yesterday (5/27/13). Now I have to ask... what do I do next? How much of the engine do I have to tear apart to get the tractor going again? I’m pretty sure a complete rebuild, boiling the block, etc. would be best, but let’s think minimum. How do I clean all the gunk out?

Drop the pan, and check the bearings, pull and see how they look. If you only ran it for 15 minutes, you might be OK. While you have the pan off, check the bottom of liners, for leaks. Wipe all the sludge off, as best as you can. If your bearings are good, I'd re-assemble, and change the oil more frequently, till you are sure all the water is out.

Replace the bad freeze plug, put in the cheapest WalMart oil you can find, get it hot, drain and replace.

In an archived post I found where it was suggested to use a 50/50 mix of oil and kerosene for the first refill of oil, run it for 10-15 minutes, drain it, and then then use straight oil after that. Thoughts on that?

Since the valve cover is off, should I replace the other plug too, since, in theory, it has 60 years of corrosion on the underside and it's just waiting to let loose? Also, what weight oil would anyone suggest for the first couple of fills?

I would replace all the free plugs that are under the valve cover. I would also probably pull the oil pan and with the cooling system full place some card board under it and watch for water leaking out of the sleeves since they are wet sleeve engines

Was thinking something like that, was thinking if it was me I would mix oil and diesel fuel. Another thought if you had some good used oil from a previous oil change.

I would use a high detergent, thin oil, and change it quick. also keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge, and an ear to the block, to listen for knocks.

I would, but I am a "while I'm in there" kind of guy. Come to think of it, it seems to bite me in the but as often as it fixes unknown problems.
