Just changed the clutch in my 1949 C & changed the rear seal with a neoprene type, it is leaking worse than the old rope type seal. What could be the cause of the leak ? Does it have to have the rope type seal to stop the leaking ?
 
Never used that type but check the breather on the valve cover. If plugged nothing will keep the seals from leaking. If the engine is in decent order he cork type works fine when the breather is clean.
