Fairbanks Morse made many types of magnetos. Some other types are FM (no type designation), FM-DR, H, DR, RV, R and many others.

Yes I know they made many of them but the only ones I have run across on the AC ones are the FM-J and one other which off the top of my head is not coming to me. I have the manuals for both in my computer and have sent those to a lot of people by way of this site.

Sorry Old, forgot I was in the A-C form. The fact still remains that Allis used other Fairbanks Morse models. The early WC used a FM-RV4 and FM-K. My 1939 WC has a FM-K on it. To farther support this premise, the A-C Service Manual form SM-2 specifically lists the aforementioned mags a long with the Bendix-Scintilla. Joe

Allis used the J and later the X which was just an improved J.

That may mean the other manual I have is for the X and just did not know it went by that

Main difference between the J and X was the way the magnetic rotor mounts on the shaft, and the way the cover is set up. The X is easier to time because the rotor button gear stays when you remove the cover. On the J, you have to retime it every time you open it up.
