WD45 Oversized Shifter Pins

I have a couple of questions regarding installation of oversized shifter pins. Does the shifter tower need to be removed or can it be drilled in place? For the pins to fit the shift lever slots, should the slots be cut larger by a machine shop or can the pin heads be ground down to fit the existing slots, assuming slots are already pretty straight as they are?

When I did mine, I stuffed rags, or paper towels down in the tower to catch filings, and drilled it in place.
I very carefully ground the pin heads, to keep them square, and snug.

Bob! that was when a vice and flat file came in handy for me! I can control a flat file better than a grinder, and didn't have a disc sander. I also used the rags in the tranny tube, however any missed shavings will be small enough to not hurt much in the tranny.
