D17 Energy cell exhaust leak

My D17 diesel developed what seems to be an exhaust leak from around the plate covering the energy cell. The cell is the very front one. When that cylinder fires you can see exhaust and feel it around the plate with the two screws covering the energy cell. This tractor is new to me and I am a novice can anyone help with this problem. Is there a gasket under the plate that can be replaced. I have read some of the posts about energy cells and I don"t have the popping noise some are talking about just the exhaust leakage. Any and all information would be helpful.

I think it's just a copper washer under the button, as a gasket. Don't run it that way, you could start eroding metal, and that will require re-machining, at some point.

Could you explain what you mean by the button? The leak seems to be coming from around an oval flat plate with two bolts in it. Is that plate easy to take off or will something come out when I remove the bolts? I was pulling a disk with it for about two hours and part of the way through it began to make the exhaust noise. I have only run the tractor that two hours since I bought it.

If I remember it right, there is a copper washer under the thing, that the bolts hold down. I'll go look at my DD grader next time I go by it, and see if it jogs my memory.

I'm working on something similar, I think. I just replaced my head gasket and in the gasket set are some round copper ring washers that I bet are gaskets for the energy cells. Did you solve your popping sound by replacing these? If not, how? Thanks for the help. Gary
