working on a c and it turns hard by hand--supposed to have been overhauled --it does run well --there is a bad spot on the flywheel so once in a while you have to turn it a bit and it is hard to turn!! -- did they have shims to get the bearing clearance? do i need to pull the pan to plastiguage and check? whats your opinion? thanks in advance-

yes Roy they used shims but plastigauge first they might have had it machined so would not use shims will be harder to gauge with oil on them if it has any shims all should be

the original setup had 3 shims on each side of the rods and main caps. Eash shim was .002 i beleive. Clearance in the bearings was about .003. When you get a couple thousandths wear, you could take out a shim. Some tightness can be attributed to the drag of the rings in the bore. How much have you run the motor ? Take out the spark plugs, now many ft pounds does it take to roll the motor once it starts to turn (with the crank). AFter rebuild, i have seen about 25 ft pounds to keep one rolling.

hey old--let me know if you come across a couple--and tell me how much-- good to have people out here to help each other THANKS

hey Old-- i found a couple rod bolts -- thanks for now-- i will let you know how i come out on this job -- Roy
