Wide Front Oil

I did a search looking for replacement oil for the 250W that is called for in a wide front on a WD45. One old post led me to Resotration Supply Company and they want $17 a qt for the stuff. What, if any, might be some alternatives? Also does anyone know the capacity? Mine is currently empty.

Cornhead grease works pretty well, too. Thin enough to flow, but thick enough to not run out the bottom seals which are probably shot.

@ Arron - I replaced all the seals when we tore it apart, so we are good there!

I did find the crazy oil place after some more internet surfing, but I don"t get how they can sell it for $12 a galon and everywhere else it runs between $65 and $80 a gallon. Makes one wonder about the quality of the stuff.

For someone"s future reference I found in the shop manual that the capacity is 1 qt for a wide front.

When I restored my WD-45, I used STP oil treatment in the steering gearbox. I get a little bit of weeping out the bottom seal, but not too bad.

We used the John Deere Multi-lube, it is a pourable grease that was used on grease systems on corn pickers and combines. It is thinner than cornhead grease.Did a WD over 25 years ago and it worked fine, we use it in rake and rotary mower gearboxes as well.
