wd45 rear main seal

I have a gasket set for a wd45 or d17. There is 2 differant sizes for the rear main seal. One has 2 pieces of felt with a plastic piece in the middle. The other one has 4 pieces of felt and 3 pieces of plastic. I think the small one is for the wd45 and the big one is for the d17. But I read on here how hard it is to put in and the small one goes in easily. Should I try to get the big one in or at least most of it in? Thanks for the help.

I am rebuilding a gas WD-45 at this time and my gasket set and old seal was the felt type.
It would be easier to pull flywheel to get the top part in properly. since I had pulled the crank there was no problem getting seal in.
Rear main has to be taken off also.

When I rebuilt the motor in my 45, the front and rear seals were wrong that came with the gasket set. Went to Agco dealer and ordered the correct seals and found out there was a serial number break where they used different seals. Do not stuff the wrong seal in the grooves on the rear or you will be doing it over. It should push in without much force. Use a little gasket shellac to stick the felt in the groove. If you go to Agco be sure and have the engine serial number.
