So, tell me about the 160

160 for sale, know nothing about them. Tractordata says it's a Renault built rig? I thought they had a Perkins in them? Wondering about them, problems, reputation, etc.

Only thing I can add is the Perkins engine is a version of the 3-152 that is very common and used worldwide (e.g. Massey 135 Massey 150 ). As already pointed out tractor was built in France. Gear ratios IMOP probably not as nice as those used in the Massey's (i.e. bigger gaps on speeds between gears). Engine parts will be very affordable and very easy to get as the Perkins 3-152 is one of the most affordable engines to rebuild in existence due to worldwide commonality and decades of use by many manufacturers. On the other hand, the rest of the tractor parts could be a problem.

As with anything older - Condition is paramount. I would not be afraid of one if priced properly.
 
There is supposedly a 160 with a German built air cooled engine,
imported into the Southeast US. It is factory, and 1 of a kind, if it
still exists!
 
Thanks guys! His price is higher than I feel comfortable with considering the condition of the tires.
 
My 160 has never had a wrench on it as far as I know except for normal oil changes etc. Sips fuel and is comfortable to run and use. I paid $3500.00 12 years ago with very good tires and straight tin, I have well gotten my moneys worth but I figure that is top money to pay.
 
Based on The Renault 56 but with a Perkins engine, as opposed to the Renault 56 marketed in France which was fitted with a 3 cylinder MWM engine, built in Germany ( which were indeed very good engines in their own right,good quality and VERY torquey) The Renault tractor had a very good name over here but they got swallowed up by Claas. As others have said, parts might be an issue.
