Does a 5050 have glow plugs and does it hurt to use a litle either when cold to start. Also is ther a way to search this website to see if someone has posted these questions or something similar?

Don't know the specific answer to your question, but in general, if you have glowplugs and it won't start, WAIT a couple minutes after the last glow plug attempt before you try again with ether. If glow plugs are still hot, they might pre-ignite the ether with disastrous consequences. And when starting with ether, of course, always be turning the engine over while you spray a little puff into the intake pipe.

As to your question, try the Oliver board- AC 5050 is same as the Oliver 1365 (or maybe 1465, not sure)- rrlund hangs out over there, and just bought a 1365- he'd know the answer.

The 5050 has no glow plugs, rather a fuel fired thermostart unit in the intake manifold. Not a wise idea to use ether with the heat/start mode. If you use ether, do so only without applying the heater.
The Oliver counterpart was the 1265.
