We used a 6' center mount sickle bar mower on our B for years. Dad bought it new with the tractor in 1948. From my viewpoint it was a love-hate relationship. The mower needed constant repairs, always something broken or loose. Maybe we just got one made on Monday morning or Friday night? It was a bear to put on and take off under good conditions, and if you knocked it off the blocks it sat on it was a mad mother bear with twin cubs, if you get my drift. Once it was on the tractor it was dream to use. Everything right in front of you, no turning around to see what you are doing. Very easy to make clean square corners without plugging. I still have both, but I'm not putting that mower back on the tractor for a long time.

The reason you had to fix them all the time was they shake them self's apart. If you have dentures you best leave them in the bath room or you would be looking for them in a hay bale.

Many people now days run the cycle mowers at to many RPM"s. As a kid starting to mow Dad would not want us to run a tractor over half throttle when mowing. If you happen to ride a horse drawn ground drive mower and take note of how fast the cutter bar is running you will see that half throttle on a tractor is faster.

Yep but then how many people do most stuff on tractor way to fast. I have seen many a person rake hay in the highest gear the tractor has and then wonder why they have to replace teeth all the time. LOL

Yep or the guy who brush hogs in 3rd gear or higher and wonders why he keep shearing shear pins or not cutting things as good as he wants them cut
