B flywheel refacing

1942? CE engine in a B. Got ready to have the flywheel refaced, noticed that it has a step in it just inside the presure plate botl holes. Probably 1/8" or so, so clutch face is higher than clutch cover mounting. Is this normal? it looks like the clutch cover would bridge the step and have inconsistant seating, or is the an alignment feature? i can't remember seeing this on my other B but it's been a while.

I worked in a machine shop for awhile.Some road tractor flywheels had a step where the pressure plate bolts.What ever amount of material i removed from the clutch surface i had to remove that same amount from the step.

We turn flywheels all the time. Some are raised, some are recessed. Just depends on the manufacturer and specifications required. The important thing is to find out the offset and make sure it's there after it has been resurfaced.
