I have an Allis forklift that is WWII or early 1950's vintage. It has a 4 cylinder Buda engine (about the size of a G Allis engine) and is rated at 2000# lift. I believe it is military surplus. Would appreciate any information on the lift such as operator's/parts manuals, and information on the proper carburetor and air filter for the lift. I have it where it will run fairly well with a carb. off an Onan twin cylinder, but have had to modify the carb a bit and still trying to connect the governor and foot throttle for correct operation. I'll look for a model and post a photo a little later today.

I would love to see a picture of it , I started working on AC f/ls in 1968, but I don't recall this unit .

The forklift is actually a Buda as indicated on the tag, but weren't they associated with AC at some point?

AC bought out Buda, in the late 50's, to get a reliable diesel motor, to put in the WD 45. F series were from the 50's. Look in C.H. Wendell's book, for more info. F series forklifts were considered among the best of their era, with excellent grade climbing ability and good reserve climbing power.

Thanks fellows. I have been reading and looking since you posted. The engine does resemble a Continental that is in a G. It is a down draft carb. Compartment is too close to really find identification on the engine. Judging from the lifting eyes, and the fact that I got it from a college here, I am guessing that the lift was military and may have been Navy during WWII time. It looks like an early version of what is shown in Wendell's book.

Hi
Our local ag supply company had something very similar to this in there ware house until last year. I'm gonna have to go look in there junk pile and see what it is. The boss got mad at it one day and picked it out of the door in the cat 924 loader bucket,Then dumped it out there with a big grin on his face, Then wrote a check for a 3 year old replacement lift with propane fuel, I worked there for a season and that old gas could sure clear ya lungs and make your eyes water in there.

Robert,

Would appreciate any information. If the machine is still around and the same as mine, I could use a carburetor and lift cylinder if the rods are good. I have discovered that if you run the lift, doors need to be open! Where are you located?

Hi Herb
Yep just like this one I'm surprised the factory inspector up here never caught on to the emissions and banned it years ago.
I'm in Manitoba Canada so larger parts would be a problem to ship. I'm re building a Perkins motor for their Massey 2500 lift right now so will be calling there this week with a parts quote hopefully, so will climb through the snow bank at the junk pile if I can get near it, and see what it is for you.
Regards Robert

Hi Herb
I was in the farm supply yard yesterday. I asked the guys if this forklift was still out back in the scrap pile. They said it's not there anymore. They told me a guy from the states came and bought it for cash and it had headed back south of the 49th with him.
Well I tried for you, But it looks like if it was the same as yours there is another one out there someplace.
Regards Robert
