AC C rear wheel studs

hey guys,

this morning i removed the right rear wheel from my dad's "c" to gain easier access to the gasket surface of the final drive housing( i was in the process of changing the fluid and wanted to scrape off the old rotten cork). In order to remove the wheel, I ended up cutting off one of the wheel studs, as the knurling on the stud had apparently stripped out and the stud would just spin with an impact wrench on the nut. This may have been a mistake. It appears to me that it is going to be impossible to put in a replacement stud without further dis-assembly as the casting that houses the spindle is too large, preventing me from being able to slip the stud through the backside of the hub...Is this the case? Am I going to have to tear down further or is there a trick to this? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer!

I am not 100% sure but I think if you rotate the hub so that, that stud is in the lowest position you will have just enough room to get it out. You may have to have the bull gear pan off

old - thanks for the tip - i tried that but there still doesn't seem to be enough room...i'm thinking even if i ground off one side of the head of the stud down to the shank there still will not be enough room to slip it in...the bull gear pan is off in this case as i was originally only trying to change the fluid in the final drives...seems i've gotten myself into a jam! i just keep thinking i must be missing something as you'd never expect to have to disassemble the entire final drive to swap out a stud...

I am sure there is a way to do it but you do have o hold your mouth just right stand on one leg and move the hub and bull gear just right to do it. Ya not much help but I bet if you try moving the hub a little at a time you will find that one sweet spot that will let it fall out

So if i understand this correctly the stud you mentioned is really a bolt? If its a bolt push it in as far as possible and cut it off. repeat until bolt is gone. Get a piece of allthread that will fit all the way thru +. Put locktite in a square nut and on the stud the correct size and pull stud into position. after mounting wheel and tightening all the nuts cut off the surplus.

That be a purty good task to get the axle out. It'd work fine with one gone. If looks is a problem ya could glue a nut fast. I had one like that a few years back and stuck the back side of the stud fast with a tiny tack weld.

Thanks to all for your suggestions! I think I'm just going to go ahead and tack-weld a nut to the backside and run a bolt through...if i ever get my hands on that engineer! (probably the same guy that designed the brake band pin nightmare on this same tractor - haha)
...by the way if any of you guys remember my questions about the coolant contaminated motor oil in this same tractor - i followed your tips (replaced the wet sleeve o-rings) and now have the tractor running again with no coolant problem! thanks again for all your help over the past few months!
