Checking the Hydraulic Oil

I got a wd My operator maunal is in really rough shape I was wondering if anybody could tell me It says with rams extended on the dipstick Im not sure if that means extended in or out and with them extended out it says the oil level is low but I can see the oil in there so I though it meant with the rams extended in was proper way to check the level
 
Ram extended means with the cylinder all the way open as in up or lifting. If it was the other way it would have said rams closed as in all the way pushed in. Understand??
 
thank you I can see oil down in there so I will have to add more then thanks for the help I just wasnt 100 percent sure didnt want to over fill it. I understand what your saying
 
If you where say filling the oil level on a loader then you would want them closed but most tractor hyd systems as in 3 point or other such have the lift cylinder extended since most are small capacity system so you need more to work as they should. On others they have a extend level and a closed level which makes it easy to figure out either way
 
I always do my best to help if and when I can. I have to many tractor my self at close to 30 and most common brands/colors
 
Chris, the hydraulic filler is the only compartment with a "bayonet" dipstick for checking the oil level. It is the one most forward on the tractor.
It is clearly indicated on the dipstick the "full" and "add" levels with the rams extended.
All the other compartments have only pipe plugs and they are filled up level with the openings.

Not picking on you personally,you are not the only person who may be confused.
English 101- Extended means maximum length, longest position. Retracted mean minimum length, shortest position.

Until you know your WD, filling the Hyd.oil to near the top is just fine (Rams closed)..

You have NO idea if the front seal on the Main-Shaft is good and that can let Hydraulic oil leak into the Clutch area...

That seal is probably ruined most often by NOT maintaining a reasonable oil level in the Hydraulic oil compartment...(do NOT let it run real low)...
