get both gears in neutral and lined up carefully with the forks and the cover will slide right on. I have had a couple of them off and back on over the years.

| Sounds like you have some gears not as they should be and the shifter not where it needs to be. Those shifters on the B/C can be a real pain in the back sides to get in and almost takes two people at times to do so
