D-17 Pressure Plate Adj.

I don't remember if the adjustment is the same on all D17's. Some pressure plate fingers are adjustable near the hinge, usually with a screw and jambnut. I have never attempted, and don't know if you could possibly adjust them.
In my very younger days I was called upon to replace the little screw that had worked it's way out of the end of the finger on a D17IV. After much trial and error, I managed to get it started, and adjusted, through that little hole in the bottom. I think I managed it through perseverance- I didn't want to fail. If I were to attempt it today, I would probably try to find or make a tool that would somehow do it.

I'm no expert, but isn't there a plate under the bell housing that you can 'snap' off, to access the adjustment bolts?

Thanks guys. I am going to where the tractor is in a week or so. If I can get to the fingers from underneath that would be great. If I can't or the adj. are tight I will have to split it.

Why would they need to be adjusted..??

Is the clutch "Stuck" and will not release..??

Adjusting the fingers will not help with that..

A failed clutch-plate (loosing lining in spots) will make the Pressure-plate fingers look out-of-adjustment...

Must be a good deal of clearance...

If you are sure the Throwout bearing is correct...

Seems unlikely that the fingers would need adjusted, normally....

Hope you have it in where it will be warm and dry..!
