Allis Chalmers b please help

Finally got spark but how do i set the timing? While removing everything I'm sure its off...it only hits on one cylinder but is a backfire instead of a fire...it also only hits on the one cylinder seems like the other three aren't getting fuel..any suggestions?

Perhaps <a href="http://personalpages.tds.net/~thompson_wp/acb/magtiming/magtiming.htm">this</a> will help you out.

Thanks rod seems very simple...would u have any recommendations as too not getting Any fuel to the number 1,3,4 cylinders?

i have to ask,how long since it ran?i ask because the rings will lose their oil seal.means no suction-no fuel to plugs, pull plugs- each cyl gets a squirt of oil spin motor over couple times.put them back inand try to start.ijust brought my 39b back to life after setting many years

As I said before send me an e-mail and I'll send you the manual for that mag. Only thing it cost you is your time so send the e-mail and ask then with it manual you have ALL the info you will ever need to work on that mag. Or is that maybe to hard for you to do???

Not getting fuel to all but one cylinder is most likely sticking rings and or sticking valves so the compression is way to low to have any vacuum to pull the fuel into the cylinders on the intake stroke. Simple way to maybe fix sticking rings is an ATF treatment. Simply put about a 1/4 cup of ATF in each cylinder and let it sit over night. For the valves and this only works for the exhaust is pour some ATF down the exhaust pipe after pour it in the cylinders

One can not tell for sure that the valves are closing all the way just by looking at them. Only way to know for sure what is going on is a compression check and I'll stick to what I said you have low compression BTDT and I do many tractor that are fence row machines and bring them back to life and that is why I have had 30 plus tractors

Its been sitting 3 or 4 years...squirted a little gas in each plug hole but i may put asquirt of oil in tomm...thank you fire the info

Gas bad as it is a non lubricant and if the rings are sticking from rust you have just added a problem on top of another problem. That is why I said ATf in each cylinder so as to help lube the cylinder walls up and to free up the sticking rings. ATF is the first thing I do to an engine when I find a fence row tractor and most of the time I can get them back up and running in just a short time

go to your local farm supply store and buy a service manual for the tractor , will help you more than you know, things as timing are hard to explain over the computer. Your question about the kill switch, just unhook the wire going to the mag and that will eliminate the switch.

Remove all 4 plugs and turn the engine over with your thumb in the plug hole, 1 cylinder at a time. You should feel compression and air pushing out of each hole. If you have this, then you have some compression. Do the the Automatic tranmission luid 9ATF)thing as Old has told you. Don't rush it, it doesn't always happen over night. Squirt gas into each cylinder, reinstall the plugs and attempt to start it. To check timing, put your thumb in plug #1 hole (closest to the radiator) and crank the engine until you feel air coming out, then use a 12" long wire and put into the hole,on top of the piston, and crank until the piston comes to the top of the cylinder. Remove the 2 screws from the front of the mag and look at the position of the rotor. It should point to the timing lug at about 11:00.If it points elsewhere, your timing is off and must be reset by removing the 4 screws on the mag cover and reseting the gears. LOL Bob

There is no wire its a little push button type kill switch...but i got spark now and ruled that out..good idea on the manual thanks
