Coil resistor

I have a WD45 with 12V generator and negative ground. It also has a 12V coil with internal resistor. the previous owner left an external resistor in place. Will this external resistor cause any problems or is it fine to leave it?

If the coil really, truly is an (extrenal resistor not required) 12 volt coil, then you do not need, or want, the external resistor.

Be sure of what you have though, as there ARE 12 volt coils that DO REQUIRE that external resistor.
 
No such thing as an internal resister. If it is a real 12 volt coil that is what it is and was wound so that it works with 12 volts no resister needed but no internal resister. As for the external resister if you use it you will have weak spark and that will give you all sorts of problems
 

I don't recall anyone on these forums ever claiming that an internally resisted ignition coil actuall had one of those big, ceramic ballast resistors inside of it. It has only been interpreted as such by a few folks who do not understand that resistors come in many different shapes and sizes.
 
Go back and reread what he said. He states flat our with internal resister so then I am just giving him the correct info as for there is not such thing as an internal resister type coil the coil plan and simple is a 12 volt coil
