I'm helping a friend of mine, change the 3rd and reverse gears, in his D 14.

I removed the main shaft, and all the gears, and now need to remove the pinion shaft with its gears.

The problem is, it won't slide apart.

I've removed the nut in front, and removed the bearing on that side.

According to the manual I have, I am supposed to be able to pull, or press out the pinion shaft, from the front.

I can get the shaft back far enough for the rear bearing to come out of the race, but that's it.

The gear closest to the pinion slides back so far, to the next piece, and won't go any farther.

We have tried using a big brass shaft, to try to get the shaft to move rearward, but it won't go.

I know there is a pin that goes in one of the pieces, to keep it turning when in use.

Please, anyone, if you have a video or some advice on how to get this shaft out, please let me know. (I don't have tha manual with me, to properly identify the pieces inside the transmission, but I'm sure you who work on transmissions, know what I mean)

Thanks to anyone who can help me out. :?:

Had the same problem on my D15 tranny. One of the pieces that slide on the spline of the shaft had become so damaged that it wouldn't slide off like it should. Get a bigger hammer and pound the shaft out if you don't have a press to put it in. It will come.
