D-15 question...

Hello orange lovers. Got a question for you guys. I'm a JD service tech and green and yellow is my thing but my dad has a D-15 with a problem. The tractor was working fine when parked, but a few days later he got on it to move it and had a no-go situation. I haven't looked at it myself, but he says the PTO still runs, it just won't move. I looked at an I&T manual and it appears the Power Director is a hydraulic unit, so I'm suspecting an oil supply or pressure loss issue, like maybe a blown o-ring or seal. Anybody know any common causes of a problem like this? Any help is appreciated.

The power director is mechanical. The oil is for cooling and lubrication, not for control. Maybe your lever simply became disconnected from the clutches.
Does the engine stall when you try to move it?

Not that I'm aware of, but as I said, I haven't looked at it myself. So the clutches are completely mechanical, not hydraulic? I'll get the manual back out and do some more research. I was in a hurry when looking at it before.

The power director lever has three positions. Forward, center, aft. Center position stops tractor movement but PTO continues. Could it be that it's just in the center (neutral) position?
So, it's not like the two position TA on a Farmall.

Also, the lever "snaps" over center forward(high) and rearward(low) when everything is working and adjusted correctly. So even if the lever/set screw/key were messed up, if the clutch is engaged in either high or low, it would stay that way whether running or not.

I don't think so, but anything is possible. He's owned the tractor for close to 40 years so I think he knows how it works. I'll just have to put eyes on it and see what I can see. He did say it seems like the lever isn't doing anything, so it might just be a lever/linkage issue.

40 years is the key. Add that to the age of the operator when bought. Are we entering old timers area? Ask me how I know.
