mine has the 16.9 28 on it now and looks small for the tractor..lots of room between fender and top of tire..what size could i go up to?..also thinking might buy new rims so would a 30 inch tire be better and more available in good used tires?...thanks for the help

What tractor that can say a lot as for tires. As for 28s and 30s 28s are common as dirt 30s as common as hens teeth as in few and far between and the 30s are an off size. The 3 most common size tractor tires are the 24s the 28s and the 38s any other size will be harder to find and cost a heck of a lot more

Hey, Old, i think he's talking about an A. At least thats the way I read it. I'm not close to my reference books to know what stock was. I'd think a 16.9x28 would be plenty big.

If so the A A/C is a less common tractor but either way going to a 30 inch tire and rim would cost the guy big time

The intended purpose of the model "A" was for belt use not draw bar use , early photos that I have seen show the "A" with a turf tread type tire installed . That being said there was no need for a larger size appropriate tire to match the size of the tractor, although most restorers widen the 28" rim for a larger tire so the tractor looks proportioned in size it is not correct , I have an "A" with 12.4 28" tire and it still doesn't look correct , I still think a turf tire would make one look better and correct.

Both of my A,S were on 18.4x28 with the original
rims extended with a 4 inch piece welded in but as 18.4x28 tires are all but unobtainable i converted them back to 6.9x28 witch fill the fenders well.

thanks for the input guys el i see that you posted the A's were not for drawbar use..i knew and had read that the E's were weak in the plow area especially the thershermans special..which had a disclaimer from the factory ..however i thought the whole purpose behind modifying and installing the U rearend was for using the tractors to plow with..otherwise they wouldnt have changed it..i know lots of them are being used as pulling tractors around here however most of them are using the later "big" transmissions.. i think the reason i asked about tires is i like the looks of the bigger tires on the ones i have seen..but most have modified hubs to accept pressed steel wheels..i dont really want to do the but the 16.9's look so anemic compared to the rest of the tractore..would also like to perhaps take it on some tractor drives without having to really run the rpms up to keep up with the other tractors...next project is finding parts to make electric start..im getting to old to crank this thing...have a great day
